Call for Proposals

The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) is now accepting proposals for its 2024 Annual Conference, Student-Centered, Data-Informed. The conference will be held on November 20-22, 2024, at Hyatt Regency in Seattle, Washington.

NWCCU is seeking proposals from member institutions that showcase innovative approaches, best practices, and research findings that prioritize student needs and leverage data to inform decision-making in higher education.

NWCCU encourages submissions from a diverse range of perspectives, including faculty, staff, administrators, student services, and researchers. Proposals should be tied to NWCCU’s Standards for Accreditation and reflect the 2024 Annual Conference theme, Student-Centered, Data-Informed.

Some topics to consider:

  • Sessions highlighting the use of data analytics, assessment tools, and evidence-based practices to drive institutional improvements, enhance student outcomes, and foster continuous quality improvement
  • Innovative teaching and learning practices that prioritize the needs and preferences of diverse student populations
  • Strategies to promote student access, belonging, and success that result in measurable improvements in addressing inequities, enhance diversity, and create a sense of inclusion on campus
  • Accreditation as a catalyst for change
  • Approaches to address health and well-being of students, particularly as it relates to mitigating student concerns and grievances
  • Supporting career readiness and professional development for students
  • Emerging strategies pertaining to financial viability and effective resource management
  • Developing a culture of assessment and data-informed decision making
  • Implementing and assessing quality improvement measures
  • Experiential learning, leadership development, and other high impact practices

Proposals will be reviewed by the conference program committee, and accepted presenters will be notified in late July.

Proposal Criteria

NWCCU encourages proposals that:

  • Connect directly to one or more of NWCCU’s Standards for Accreditation
  • Speak to the conference theme, Student-Centered, Data-Informed
  • Offer new viewpoints, insights, and innovative practices
  • Foster audience engagement and participation
  • Provide tangible takeaways that the audience can apply to their own institutions

Session Format Options

All concurrent sessions will be 50 minutes in length. There is an opportunity for a small number of presentations to be held as two-hour workshops.

  • Concurrent sessions will be held on Thursday, November 21 and Friday, November 22, 2024 – presenters must be available to present either day
  • Workshop (two-hour) sessions will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024

Submission Guidelines

Proposals should be submitted no later than July 8, 2024, via NWCCU’s online form. Presenters will be asked to include the following:

  • Presentation title
  • Presentation description (short description of the session to be published in program; should pique attendee interest -limited to 100 words or less)
  • Presentation overview (a detailed outline of the presentation’s goals and what will be addressed – limited to 500 words or less)
  • Connection to NWCCU’s Standards for Accreditation
  • Learning outcomes and audience takeaways (limited to 100 words or less)
  • Audience engagement (limited to 50 words or less)
  • Brief biographical information for all presenters, including headshots (limited to 100 words or less per presenter)

Selection Criteria

NWCCU’s conference program committee will review all proposals and select the ones that best align with the conference theme, expertise of the presenter, accreditation standards, and other important criteria such as the quality and clarity of the proposal, feasibility within the available space, and the value it offers attendees. To ensure that your proposal meets all necessary requirements, please review the submission guidelines and dates.

Registration and Conference Considerations

NWCCU will providea discounted general conference registration for up to two presenters for the 2024 Annual Conference, so long as each presenter registers for the conference before early bird registration closes. All other conference-related expenses, including but not limited to travel expenses, are the responsibility of the presenter.

NWCCU will provide the following equipment to all presenters: 8′ tripod screen, 3K projector, cabling, microphone. Presenters must provide their own laptop to conduct the presentation.
