Join us in welcoming the new presidents in the Northwest:

President Conniry

President Charles J. Conniry, Jr., Western Seminary

For the past three years, Dr. Conniry has served as Western Seminary’s provost and vice president of academic affairs. He holds a PhD in Theology from Fuller Seminary, and has invested nearly 30 years in a variety of instructional and administrative roles at schools along the West Coast. His leadership is also informed by his many years of pastoral ministry and church planting. President Conniry becomes the 13th president of Western since its founding in 1927.

President James Wohlpart, Central Washington University

Central Washington University has appointed A. James Wohlpart, PhD, as its 15th president. Throughout his career, Dr. Wohlpart has devoted himself to expanding educational opportunities for all, enhancing campus sustainability and inclusion, and promoting student civic engagement.

Previously as provost and executive vice president for Academic Affairs at the University of Northern Iowa, he has helped build pathways to higher education for students, especially those of color. Those efforts led to an increased first-year class in fall 2020, even in the midst of a pandemic, with the highest diversity the university has ever experienced. Prior to joining UNI, Dr. Wohlpart was dean of undergraduate studies at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), where he served as associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences from 2005-2011 and chaired the Division of Humanities and Arts from 2000-2005. Dr. Wohlpart has a PhD in English from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, an MA in English from Colorado State University, and a BA in English and philosophy from the University of Tennessee.
