V4I1: Linn-Benton Community College creates a Rebound Scholarship

Aug. 12, 2021 ⋅ Categories: Beacon, Equity

With the help of the LBCC Foundation and support of the Board of Education, Linn-Benton Community College is offering a Rebound Scholarship in the amount of $500 to any student coming this fall who was previously enrolled at LBCC in credit classes, but had to drop out because of the pandemic.

LBCC is currently experiencing a drop in enrollment, with students citing COVID-related hardship as the major cause of being forced to take a break. Now with much more face-to-face classes being offered this fall, LBCC wants to do whatever is possible to encourage students to continue along their path toward a better life.

We know that $500 is nowhere near full-ride…but it’s a helping hand during a critical time when students could really use a boost,” said Jennifer Boehmer, Executive Director of the LBCC Foundation. “The most important thing we can do is help students reclaim their dreams. Our Board wanted to boldly respond to student needs right now, meet the moment, and do what we can.”

The college has set aside up to $250,000 for the effort in combined resources from the LBCC Foundation and reserve funds. So far, more than 85 students have applied for the scholarship, eager to get back on track this fall. Common reasons cited for dropping out during the pandemic have included:

The college will distribute funds on a first come, first serve basis — however the goal is to help as many students return this fall as possible.

As the community rebounds from COVID, we want to make college as affordable as possible so that our students can get back to school and work,” said LBCC President Lisa Avery. “I am proud that our Foundation will be helping with $500 scholarships to help bring students back to college. Now more than ever, LBCC is the right place to get back on track with college and a career.” Learn more at: https://www.linnbenton.edu/comeback.php
