V5I1: NGA Web Bites

Next Generation Assessment Web Bites feat. President Ramaswamy

Next Generation Assessment (NGA) announced that Dr. Sonny Ramaswamy, President of the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), is featured in its Web Bites video series, which provides a platform for discussion of timely topics, best practices, and new approaches to emerging challenges in higher education assessment, accreditation, and policy. Each moderated video discussion features assessment specialists, educators, and higher education leaders. Dr. Ramaswamy’s interview is part of a special series on accreditors and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

In a timely conversation about NWCCU’s role in emphasizing DEI for its accredited institutions, President Ramaswamy highlights the forward-looking work that the accrediting organization has done to incorporate DEI into its policies and procedures.

“I had the opportunity to discuss the state of DEI with Dr. Ramaswamy in the higher education institutions accredited by NWCCU and found it extremely engaging. The work being done to promote student success is very important and the progress is substantial,” said Tammie Cumming, associate provost for institutional effectiveness at Brooklyn College and NGA Web Bite cohost. “NWCCU’s focus on the closing of equity gaps by emphasizing context-based and data-driven decision-making is particularly commendable.”

“NWCCU’s approach to important conversations regarding equity underscores the accrediting organization’s commitment to supporting institutions’ missions while championing DEI efforts broadly,” said M. David Miller, professor of research and evaluation methodology at the University of Florida and cohost of the NGA Web Bites. “The organization’s partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the resources that NWCCU provides speaks to its devotion to fostering DEI.”
